The IDF and Shin Bet announced the miraculous rescue of Hamas hostage Pvt. Ori Megidish on October 30 after a combined operation. Megidish had been medically examined and her condition was reported as good, and she met with her family. Celebrations erupted in her hometown of Kiryat Gat in the South. After enlisting six months earlier, the 19-year-old Megidish was stationed at the IDF’s Nahal Oz base near the Gaza border as a lookout. In footage from Channel 14, newscaster Sharon Gal recited a blessing for the release of hostages. An Instagram reel showed family members carrying a Torah scroll in a large case through their home to Ori’s room. Another post showed the mother of the family making challah and praying tearfully for her daughter’s liberation from captivity. A morale boost for all of Israel and the world. The IDF Spokesman R.-Adm. expressed a moral obligation to bring all hostages home. The operation that freed Megidish was carefully planned after the Shin Bet obtained information about her whereabouts in Gaza. Last week, UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs Martin Griffiths met in Jerusalem with relatives of other hostages imprisoned in Gaza. The morale boost to the people of Israel resulting from the safe return of Megidish is incalculable.
