Washington-area artist Phillip Ratner, known for his sculptures of immigrants and historical figures, died at 86 at home in Bethesda, Maryland. Ratner was commissioned by the National Park Service to create statues representing immigrants who entered through Ellis Island and other figures, raising funds for the sculptures himself. He co-founded the Israel Bible Museum in Safed and taught art at various institutions. Ratner is survived by his wife and four children.
